InsuranceERM is delighted to reveal the winners of the prestigious InsuranceERM UK & Europe 2018-2019 awards.
Scooping the big prizes this year were Allianz and Argo Group in the best re/insurer and risk innovation categories, respectively.
Scor scored a double achievement with the French reinsurer’s chief risk officer Frieder Knuepling being named chief risk officer of the year, while Eric Lecoeur won chief actuary of the year.
Socrates Coudounaris, executive director of risk (EMEA) at US-based reinsurer RGA, received the judges’ award for his contribution to the industry.
Risk team of the year went to Vitality while Aviva Investors won insurance asset manager of the year.
Some firms continued their winning run from last year. Hymans Robertson, for example, won the actuarial team and longevity / mortality team categories for the second year in row.
EY (best consultancy) and Securis (best alternative capital deal-maker) also repeated their victories from 2017.
The diversity initiative of the year, a new award category launched this year, was won by consultancy Crowe.
In the technology categories, FIS Prophet won the best actuarial modelling solution.
Meanwhile, Milliman CHESS won the award for best economic scenario generator software.
Oasis Loss Modelling Framework picked up the award for best catastrophe risk modelling solution.
“I offer my congratulations to all the winners and highly commended entries in this year’s InsuranceERM Awards. The standard of entries continues to improve – a reflection of the stature achieved by risk and capital management teams in insurance companies,” said InsurancERM managing editor Christopher Cundy.
“I also wish to thank the judges for giving up their valuable time and sharing their expertise, and also all the people who submitted entries. Our judges had a tough time deciding between some very worthwhile candidates.”

How the InsuranceERM awards were judged
In the first round of judging, a small group of category judges reviewed submitted entry material and then voted in a secret ballot to determine the finalists. Votes were counted and verified by InsuranceERM's editorial team.
These shortlisted entries were then put to a larger judging panel for a second round of voting by secret ballot, ranking the finalists for each category.
All judges are senior risk and actuarial experts from re/insurers across Europe and the UK, each chosen for their knowledge, objectivity and credibility.
The judges' decision is final and neither InsuranceERM nor the judging panel will enter into any correspondence regarding individual entries and/or award winners.
