Qatar Re appoints CRO and compliance head

Bermuda-based reinsurer Qatar Re has made three appointments to its governance and operations team.

Andrew Smith has taken up the role of chief risk officer. He was previously at consultancy EY and worked extensively with Qatar Re on its shift of domicile to Bermuda. While at EY in Bermuda, he had local responsibility for the financial services risk management and actuarial teams. Smith is an accountant by training but has focused on risk management for most of his career.

Adam Young has been appointed head of compliance. He joins from Qatar Re's parent company, QIC, where he was head of group compliance, based in Doha. His previous experience includes various compliance roles within Lloyd's and the London market with firms including Aegis and Brit.

Steve Tidd has been promoted to chief operating officer. He was appointed head of operations at Qatar Re in October 2015, having previously been with Service Underwriting Agency as managing director.
