Frank Grund, BaFin
Germany's top insurance regulator, Frank Grund, has one of the most challenging jobs in Europe. The country's insurance sector is large and diverse and includes several of the world's largest re/insurers, yet is at significant risk from the low interest rate environment. After decades working in the industry at firms including Gerling and Basler, he took on the role of chief executive director of insurance and pension funds supervision in October 2015.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
It is very enjoyable to be able to contribute to a stable insurance market in Germany and Europe.

Passionate people, either in the insurance market or in supervision.
What are the major challenges ahead?
Interest rates, digitalisation, global harmonisation.
What will be the next big development in risk management?
The achievement of convergence in Europe.
