A politician representing the CDU party, Balz has been a consistent presence in steering Solvency II through the European Parliament, sitting on the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and as rapporteur of the Omnibus II directive. Those risk managers that are thinking further than risk models.
What have you learnt about communicating risk?
Risks cannot be completely regulated, but can be minimised through regulation across the financial sectors. Expertise in and regulation of long-term risks becomes more and more important.
What are the major challenges ahead?
Stabilising financial markets regulation, making the regulation more efficient, monitoring its implementation and ensuring practicability.
