Chief actuary of the year: Eric Lecoeur, Scor
For more than 25 years, Eric Lecoeur, group chief actuary at Scor has been a leading contributor to the actuarial community in Europe.
After having held several positions in the heart of Scor's businesses, Lecoeur was promoted to group chief actuary in 2004 and since then, his day-to-day responsibilities have continued to expand alongside the reinsurer's growing global footprint.
He meets annually with Scor's board to present his opinion on technical provisions, underwriting policy and the adequacy of retrocession arrangements.
Lecoeur and his team are also responsible for independently validating the group's internal model.
The model covers all material quantifiable risks to which the group is exposed, such as life and P&C underwriting risk, and reflects Scor's risk profile and strategy.
Lecoeur was instrumental in the due diligence and on-boarding process of sizeable acquisitions by Scor in recent times, such as Converium and Generali US.
A statistician by background, Lecoeur is a certified actuary of l'Institut des Actuaires and a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
In addition to being a frequent lecturer in France, he has co-authored two books on actuarial reserving.
InsuranceERM's judging panel said what marked Lecoeur out is his remarkable contribution to the industry and profession over a long period, whilst at the same time expanding his role each year.
