Since its launch in 2021, WTW's Igloo Cloud has been a game-changer for capital modelling.

So, it's no surprise that it has been named the winner of best use of cloud technology at the InsuranceERM UK & Europe Awards 2025.

Igloo is a powerful risk analytics platform used by over 1,000 users across the industry.

Its diverse applications range from analysing portfolio mix and growth plans for profitability to enhancing risk and capital efficiency. It also helps firms understand and control business risk, while supporting regulatory requirements and rating agency work.

A WTW spokesperson says: "Igloo enables firms to do things previously not possible. It brings a new level of speed and scale so that the functionality of capital models has expanded into new areas."

This transformation has been facilitated by Igloo Cloud's ability to distribute models across a grid of machines, dramatically reducing runtime and allowing multiple models to run simultaneously.

This means users can be far more responsive, delivering insights in minutes instead of hours, while exploring a wider range of business strategies at the same time.

The impact of Igloo Cloud extends beyond business users. IT departments have also embraced it as a solution to simplify infrastructure and cut costs. "By adopting Igloo Cloud, firms no longer require specialist IT support," the spokesperson explains.

WTW continues to enhance Igloo Cloud's capabilities and in spring 2024 a new Igloo Manager Web App was launched, further expanding connectivity and functionality.

"We have also branched out Igloo Cloud beyond capital modelling into granular catastrophe exposure management and reinsurance pricing," the spokesperson adds. In fact, the platform has already secured its first client, who it using it as a complete enterprise reinsurance pricing system, the spokesperson notes. This is a testament to Igloo Cloud's growing influence on the insurance industry.
